A more than 40 metre high tower, equal to an eleven-storey tower block, appeared on Dziewicza Góra hill near Poznan. From the tower one can admire the beautiful city panorama and the vast Zielonka forest.

The Zielonka forest is situated north from Poznan, and is the largest forest complex only a few kilometres from the capital of Wielkopolska.
The forest abounds with 200 year-old trees, which can be observed especially within the area of Łopuchowo Forestry, located between Poznan and Murowana Goślina, Those who love hiking will have an opportunity to admire the incredible scenery of the forest. Some of the rarer species of flora and fauna, especially birds, can be spotted here. Among the animals living in the Zielonka forest are wild boars, many kinds of deer, beavers, otters, badgers and cranes. Numerous lakes and flowers make the area incredibly colourful. Śnieżowcy Jar (snowflake ravine), a flower reserve situated outside the forest area, is also worth visiting. In early spring the ravine is covered with spring snowflake flowers. Each year this unforgettable view attracts many photographers and people who appreciate the beauty of nature.
With 220 km of cycle routes, Zielonka forest is also a paradise for cyclists.
The highest hill in the Zielonka forest is Dziewicza Góra (the Virgin hill), which owes its name to the Poor Clares order, which has been based in nearby Owińska since the Middle Ages.
For years Dziewicza Góra has been Poznan’s viewpoint overlooking a panorama of the city, which encompasses both the forest and the city of Poznan. Thanks to the opening of the tower theses views seem to be even more spectacular. The new tower is more than 40 metres high with 172 stairs leading to its top. The tower is open to the visitors every day from 10 a.m. – 8 p.m. and admission is free till the end of June.
Not only is the tower on Dziewicza Góra a tourist attraction, but it also fulfils another very important function – it is a fire observation point. Special equipment, which has been installed in the observation cabin located at the top of the tower, enables precise location of fire and other dangers as well as makes it possible for the Forestry authorities and fire department to communicate. Constant monitoring of the neighbouring forests will be conducted from the tower from early spring to late autumn. By introducing the forest monitoring, the Forestry authorities want to prevent the tragedy which happened a few years ago, when 220 hectares of forest were destroyed by fire.
