The summer holiday does not mean a break in sports tournaments.
Within the next few weeks, several international sports events will take place in Poznań. Until 20th July, Poznań will form the arena for young basketball players to compete. It is where the European Under-20 Women's Basketball Championship takes place. But it is just a prelude to a more important basketball event. Next year Poland, and among other places Poznań, will hold the Senior European Basketball Championship. On 18 July, once again world-class men's volleyball teams will visit Poznań. As part of the World League, the Polish national volleyball team will play against Egypt in the Arena sports hall. It will be one of the last games for Poland before the Olympic Games in Beijing, which starts in a few weeks. Picture 1 – The World League in Poznań What is more, 19th July is the opening day of the “Porshe Open” international tennis tournament. Apart from all the top tennis players in Poland, players from abroad who are classified in and around the top 100 in the world rankings will take part in this tournament, treated as a challenger. The tennis tournament will be accompanied by cultural events. On 21st July, the French musician Jean-Luc Ponty will perform in Poznań as a tournament guest. Jean-Luc Ponty is a French jazz violinist. On 27th July, the best triathlon participants from Europe will visit Poznań. The championship of the Triathlon European Cup will take place in the area surrounding Lake Malta. The series of tournaments of the European Cup in this discipline was launched in the Spanish town of Pontevedra in April. There are 13 cup tournaments planned in the whole season. In Poland, apart from Poznań, the championship of the Triathlon European Cup will also be held in Kędzierzyn Koźle in September. |
