Some stressed with pride that piling for the new stadium is just beginning, others that preparations for the roofing are under way – the meeting of the representatives of six cities which have been selected to host the European Football Championship in 2012 was held in Poznań. According to their reports, “everything proceeds according to schedule”.
The representatives of Poznań, Gdańsk, Wrocław, Warsaw, Chorzów and Krakow participated in the meeting. The former four received the right to organize the championship from UEFA, the latter two are alternative cities. Matches will be played there when preparations in one of the first group of cities do not finish on time.
In his report on the stage of preparations, Ryszard Grobelny, Mayor of the City of Poznań, stressed the advanced stage of the construction of the Poznań football stadium.
“At present the superstructure of the second tribune is under construction and also the preparatory works for the demolition of two old tribunes continue. Everything is done according to schedule,” emphasized Mayor Grobelny. The reconstruction of the stadium in Krakow is also at an advanced stage. Two new roofed tribunes and the media pavilion are ready. The reconstruction of  another tribune, which will also have a roof, will begin in May.
Preparatory works in Chorzów are on a little less advanced stage. All tribunes of the Silesian Stadium – the biggest in Poland – are finished, but their condition is rather poor. At present seats are exchanged and toilets built; the roofing has not been mentioned yet.
Warsaw and Gdańsk are in the worst situation. In those cities works on the designs of stadiums are on the way. However, the representatives of those agglomerations spoke about piling the ground for future tribunes and assured that their stadiums will be ready on time. A second important topic emphasized during the meeting in Poznań was transportation. Within the next few days the development of two important streets: Bułgarska and Bukowska, will commence in Poznań. In both cases the streets will be widened. Also the reconstruction of the last stretch of ul. Głogowska, which is to connect Poznań with the A2 motorway, is at its last stage.
The participants reported also on the issues connected with the extension of local airports and the construction of hotels.
