Tour de Pologne passed through Poznań
Tuesday, 25 September 2007 11:10
A colorful group composed of over 100 cyclists from all over the world passed through Poznań.
The city provided the finish line for one of the stages of the 64th Tour de Pologne, the most important cycling race in Poland, included in the prestigious class UCI ProTour.

The cyclists came to Poznań from Bydgoszcz. The finish line, exactly like last year, was located near Lake Malta. Before reaching it, the cyclists had to race through the streets around the center of Poznań for a dozen kilometers. They were accompanied by their fans along the way. Finally, after an exciting finish, the first cyclist to cross the finish line was the Italian Danilo Napolitano. However, the contest could not have done without dramatic events. Just before finishing the race, more than 10 cyclists got involved in a crash.
From Poznań, the participants of Tour the Pologne moved to the south of Poland. After a few “flat” stages, the cyclists raced through the mountainous Polish-Czech borderland. The winner of the general classification was Johan Van Summeren from Belgium.

Next Year, the 65th Tour de Pologne will not come to Poznań. The organizers of the race want to promote other Polish regions as well. That is why the cyclists will probably compete in south-eastern Poland.
