Fan zone will be situated on the Freedom square
Friday, 15 April 2011 14:08

The decision about the Fan Zone has been already made. The best location is the Freedom square, in the very centre of the city, a few hundred meters from the Old Market. I am sure that UEFA will accept our proposal – added Ryszard Grobelny, the president of the city.

The decision about the Fan zone in Poznań was taken on the basis of a multicriteria analysis. Scientists from Poznań University of Technology took into account five locations: Poznań International Fair, Freedom square, the surrounding of Malta regatta track, Kasprowicz’s park and John Paul II’s park (Łęgi Dębińskie).

- We evaluated each area in terms of safety and attractiveness for the city, potential sponsors and residents. We also took into account the vicinity to the city centre and availability communication. Freedom square turned out to be the best location – said prof. Jacek Żak from Poznań University of Technology.

In the Fun Zone the football supporters will be able to see all matches of the European Football Championship UEFA EURO 2012TM. It is estimated that in the so-called Fun Zone 20 thousand people will be able to see the matches on large outdoor screens.

- We are expecting that the matches of the Polish representation and the teams which will play on the Poznań stadium will enjoy the biggest popularity. Then we are ready to admit even 35 thousand of viewers – explained president Ryszard Grobelny.
