The Record 4th Poznań marathon

Record results and above all – record attendance. That’s in short the summary of the 4th Poznań marathon which was held on Sunday, 3rd April 2001. Over 4000 contestants from 18 countries participated in the marathon. The distance of 21.097 km was finished by 3727 contestants which is a new record of attendance in the history of Poznań half-marathon.

At the finish the fastest were runners from abroad.

The winners in the general men category: I Dennis Mwanzia Musau Kenya, who achieved the time 1 hour 3 minutes and 14 seconds. The second place was achieved by Gadengoi Ngorokonyang Loitareng from Kenya and the third by Hosea Tuei also from Kenya. Among women the fastest was Eunice Cheyech Kales from Kenya who achieved the time 1 hour 12 minutes and 54 seconds. The second place was won by Caroline Chepkwony from Kenya and the third by Nadjerzda Trilinskaja from Russia.

The participants of the event were running along the traditional route of the marathon (with the start on archbishop Baraniak street and the finish by Malta). They were supported by 16 musical bands. Each contestant who run the distance of 21.097 km in the regulated time of 3 hours received a medal and the best contestants received financial rewards.

4th Poznań half-marathon constituted the first stage of preparations to the 12th Poznań marathon. This year’s edition of the Poznań marathon, the biggest running event in Poland, will take place on 16th October 2011.
