Sportswomen representing Poznan?s Tryton club ? Julia Michalska and Magdalena Fularczyk - won bronze medals at the World Rowing Championships in New Zealand. Poznan rowers had the best time in the qualifiers and advanced straight to the final. The beginning of the final of women's double sculls was very unfavourable for the last year's gold medallists from Poznan. When passing the 1,000m line, Polish representatives occupied only the fifth position, but at 1,500 metres they placed fourth. They fought very valiantly, achieving the best time of the last 500m, eventually placing third and winning bronze medals. Gold was won by the UK team ? Anna Watkins and Katherine Grainger ? who were ahead of Australians ? Kerry Hore and Kim Crow. For some time it was not certain whether Poznan's rowers would eventually attend the Championships due to injuries that beleaguered both competitors over the last year. We are even the more prouder. |
