600 days before the official opening of the UEFA EURO 2012 European Football Championship, Poznan has seen an unusual goal being been unveiled. Rafał Górczyński?s artist installation, which won the first place in the POZNAŃ GALERIA EURO competition, was presented at the junction of ul. Serafitek and ul. Kórnicka in Poznan, about 2 kilometres from the Old Market Square. The work entitled FAIR PLAY is a form shaped as a football goal, but when approached closer the object reveals its perverse appearance.
A basic form of the goal was subjected to modification in a way that permits shooting goals from the opposite sides of the goal. With regard to the upcoming championship, the artist touched upon the issue of equality and purity of human relations.
The Poznan Galeria Euro competition, staged in connection with preparations for the UEFA EURO 2012? Championship, is of international character and is addressed to young artists creating various spatial forms. The competition aims to raise city?s spatial attractiveness by producing installations which will appear in Poznan?s streets every 100 days up until the opening of the UEFA EURO 2012? Championship.
Presently, the 2nd edition the competition is being staged, in which young designers from around Europe prepare their proposals for engaging four locations through artistic form. The first week of December will see selection of a group of winners who will realise their artistic concepts during the following round dates marking the time passing until the UEFA EURO 2012? is opened. |
