Nearly 1,300 contestants from 79 countries took part in the 38th Canoe World Championship. For the 3rd time in its history, the Championship took place on Poznan?s regatta course at Malta Lake.
Contestants competed over distances of 200, 500 and 1,000 metres. The best team in the medal classifications was Hungary, having won 12 medals (6 gold, 5 silver and 1 bronze). Second position was taken by the German representation, with 11 medals (5-4-2), and third by Canada, with 7 medals (4-1-2). The Polish representation gained 5 medals (0-1-4) and took 20th place in the medal classification. It is worth mentioning that four of the Polish teams that won medals included contestants representing Poznan. Overall, medals were won by canoeists from 29 countries.
