A couple of important, international sport events will be held in Poznan in 2010. The biggest event will be the World Canoe Championship organised in August (19-22) on the Malta racing course. It is another edition of this event held in Poznan. The Malta racing course has hosted the combat of the best canoeists in the world in 1990 and 2001.
Several days after the end of the competition for the best world canoeist the Poznan Malta will host another important event, the World University Championships (27-29 August). Competitors participating in the event are students practising sports.
Students who are also sportsmen will come to Poznan again in July. From the 19th – 25th July Poznan will be hosting the European Universities Basketball Championships. This is the biggest basketball event to be organised in Poznan this year. The matches will be played in the Arena sports hall.
A bit younger sportsmen will come to Poznan in May. From the 22nd – 23rd wrestling Qualifications to the 1st Youth Olympic Games will be held, the Olympics will take place in August in Singapore. Poznan beat the following cities for the right to organise this event: Samokov, Martigny, Szombathely and Baku. The Summer Youth Olympic Games is a new initiative of the International Olympic Committee. Sportsmen beginning their international careers will participate in the Championships.
Poznan has been known in the world as the organiser of events for runners for several years now. This year it will be no different. On the 28th March the third edition of the Poznan half-marathon will be held. Runners from all over Poland and guests from abroad will put their abilities to test along the route of over 21 km. It is also a great training session for many people before the Autumn edition of the Poznan Marathon. This year the Poznan Marathon will be organised for the 11th time in October. This is the biggest running event in Poland. In the jubilee, tenth marathon 4,000 runners lined up at the start.

And in a couple of days, from the 15th to the 17th January group B tournament of the European Field Hockey Championships will be held in Poznan. Competitors from the following countries will take part in the tournament: England, Belarus, Portugal, Switzerland, Slovakia, Scotland and Sweden. The competition will be held in the modern sports hall of the University of Physical Education.
