10th Poznan Marathon It has been a record race. Four thousands runners from around the world competed in the 10th jubilee Poznan marathon. Samson Kimeli Chebii from Kenya was the first to cross the finish line with a time of 2h19m14s. Three of his fellow countrymen, Abraham Yilma Belete, Frimin Kiplagat Kiphoge and Elisha Kiprotich Sawe finished the race right after him. Piotr Pobłocki was the fastest runner from Poland, coming in in fifth place. Apart from the marathoners, handicapped sportsmen in wheelchairs and roller skaters also finished the race, and everyone who crossed the finish line was given a commemorative medal in honour of the former vice president of Poznan, Maciej Frankiewicz, who passed away a few months ago. Not only was the Poznan marathon his idea, he had also competed in the Poznan marathon.Trusses on the stadium It was a spectacular undertaking, a unique technical operation and a breakthrough in the building of the Poznan Stadium. The operation to raise the rooftop structure of the stadium which will be one of the football arenas for the European Football Championship 2012 has begun. The northern truss was assembled over the last few months on the football pitch. To accomplish the lifting of the 1,400 tonne structures, special supplementary towers were built, upon which subsequent parts were joined to the rest of the structure. The assembled element was finished and ready for lifting on to the two ferroconcrete shanks located in the corners of Stand 4. Its weight is about 1,400 tons, it measures 175m length and will stand 18.4 metres from the ground. In the first phase, the entire girder will be raised 1m above the ground to allow for mounting and tightening of high tensile steel cable in order to compress the truss. After compression, the northern truss will be lifted 30m above the ground and hydraulically moved to the designated ferroconcrete shanks. To lift such heavy constructions, serious technical equipment will be used: eight hydraulic actuators mounted on additional steel structures located at the ends of the girders (near the designated shanks). Swiss company Hebetec Engineering AG was called in to perform this complicated operation, and this is the first operation on such a scale in Europe. |
