Wednesday, 08 April 2009 20:22
Poznań started preparations for applying for organising the football Homeless World Cup which will be organised in 2011.

Street football is played in 60 countries all over the world and its World Cup is organised every year. In the last tournament, which was held in Melbourne (December 2008), the Polish team finished 13th out of 48 teams from all continents. The year before that, in 2007, the Poles won the silver medal. The patronage of this event is hold by such organisations and associations as the Homeless World Cup, FIFA and such players as Eric Cantona, David Beckham, Wayne Rooney, Ronaldinho and others.
The idea of the event is to allow the homeless and drug addicts take part in a competition as a way of maintaining abstinence, make positive changes in their lives and to activate them socially and professionally.
