Poznaniak in the famous Oxford and Cambridge Boat Races
Wednesday, 08 April 2009 20:19
For the second time in history, a student from Poznań has taken part in the famous Oxford and Cambridge regattas on the River Thames.

Michał Płatkowiak, 27 year-old Oxford student who is also a member of the Poznań Rowing Club, took part in the 180-year old race.
The Oxford University team won this year’s race, which has been described as the “clash of giants” because both teams fielded their heaviest teams in the history of the race. The average weight of the Oxford team was 99.7 kg (the heaviest in history) and at Cambridge, 96.1 kg.
The Oxford and Cambridge rowing eights race is one of the oldest sport competitions in history. It starts at Putney Bridge and finishes at Chiswick Bridge on the River Thames in London. The distance covered is 4 miles and 374 yards (approximately 6,779 km). Since 1829, the Cambridge team has won 79 times, and Oxford 75 times (including this year’s win). In 1877 it finished with a draw.
