On the occasion of the Remembrance Day, commemorated on 11 November, wreaths were laid at the cemetery of the British Commonwealth at the Citadel in Poznań.
The Memorial Day is observed in all countries of the British Commonwealth. This is the way in which the memory of soldiers killed during both world wars is commemorated. In Poland, the representatives of embassies of the British Commonwealth countries lay wreaths at the cemeteries in Poznań, Kraków and Gdańsk.
The British Commonwealth War Cemetery is located at the Citadel in Poznań. It was founded in 1925 on a dedicated area of the Old-Garrison Cemetery.
The remains of 427 soldiers and officers are resting at the cemetery in Poznań. The Cross of Sacrifice is the central point of the necropolis. On the upper terrace, there are graves from the period of the World War I and some of the World War II, and on the lower – only those from the times of the World War II. The entire area is carefully maintained, planted with grass. The present appearance of the necropolis reflects the state of other war cemeteries of the British Commonwealth. |
