Gate RelocatedPoznan?s construction workers carried out an unusual project, which involved the relocation of a historic gate, which was situated within ulica Bukowska (now under refurbishment), i.e. the access route to Poznan Ławica Airport. The brick wall is a relic of the former Edwardowo farm.

The action kicked off at 10:00 p.m. Welders cut off the huge 40-tonne construction, which cranes moved about a dozen metres. As predicted by experts, lifting the construction and the initial shift were the most difficult parts of the operation. The gate, which weighed 80 tonnes together with the steel elements it was framed in, had to remain intact. Ultimately, it was successfully set into prefabricated foundations inside the nearby park, ca. 30 metres from its original location. Monument preservation officers will soon start working on it.

Ul. Bukowska is being modernized as part of Poznan?s preparation for EURO 2012.
