The festival will be inaugurated on August the 13th with a concert at Gniezno Cathedral. The programme includes four concerts by Joaquin Rodrigo. One day later, the same concerto, titled ‘Spanish Guitar Night’, will be played at the Great Hall of Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan. In total, during the two-week long festival, one will have an opportunity to listen to 37 concerts in over a dozen cities of Greater Poland. The festival will feature, among others, performances by David Russell, Segovia’s pupil and Grammy Award winner, and Dang Thai Son, a Vietnamese pianist, who will play a duet with Ewa Pobłocka. “This proves that the guitar is just a point of departure for us, that what matters is music, the best music ever. The context and remembering the past are significant as well. Indeed, we dedicate the concerto of the winner of the 1980 International Fryderyk Chopin Competition to the 30th anniversary of the foundation of Solidarity, an outstanding movement that united the Polish nation and prompted their best characteristics,” Przemysław Kieliszewski, the festival’s Director stated. It is the organisers’ wish that the program should appeal to the tastes of the widest audience possible. Hence the idea of organising a Guitar Marathon, scheduled for August 22nd.
