Poznań archeologists from the Adam Mickiewicz University constructed three-dimensional fragment of the model of the Anthemous River valley in Greece. This is the first, initial stage of explorations planned for several seasons. The characteristic features of this region include many traces of colonization of the end of neolith and beginning of the Bronze Age (5th and 4th century BC). The model immortalizes the year long cooperation with the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki within the Anthemous Valley project.
The exploration area situated in the south-east of Thessaloniki, occupying the area of ca. 40 km2 has not been subject of such an intensive archeological exploration so far. During this year exploration, the scientists recognized in Vasiliki-Kiparisi a stand comprising the remains of a colony on the area of several hectares. The collected samples will help to accurately date the sediments using C14 carbon. The explorations are not invading. The applied GIS techniques and three-dimensional elevation modeling based on the GPS technologies are being applied. In future, geophysical exploration will be used as well. |
