In one of Poznań’s High Schools camera-work began on a documentary film about Professor Maria Siemionow, a world famous surgeon. On this occasion, Professor Siemionow visited her old school.
Camera-works will also be shot in the halls of the Medical University of Poznań and in the University of Cleveland in the United States, where the professor is now working. The gala premiere of the film should to be held during the inauguration of the new academic year at the Medical University in Poznan. Prof. Maria Siemionow gained worldwide fame in 2008 when she was the first surgeon in the world to make a human face transplant. Maria Siemionow graduated Medical Academy of Poznań in 1974. In the mid-80s she moved to the United States. Since 1995 she has directed the Department of Plastic Surgery and Microsurgery at the Clinic College of Medicine in Cleveland, Ohio. Since 2005 she has been a professor at the local department of surgery. In December 2008, she made the fourth in the world and first in the U.S. successful face transplant operation. After a 22-hour operation eight-member team under her direction transplanted onto a female victim of shooting about 80% of a face which came from a deceased donor. |
