Three students from Georgia have been awarded scholarship of the City of Poznan as part of the 'Academic and Scientific Poznan' Programme. It is the second time that Poznan has funded scholarships to Georgian students, facilitating their education at Poznan's universities. Mayor Tomasz Kayser met the three Georgians who were awarded Poznan City Scholarships under the 'Academic and Scientific Poznan' Programme. It is the second time that Poznan has funded scholarships to a few Georgian students to enable their education at one of Poznan's universities. As part of the scholarship programme, the City has collaborated with the Polish Embassy in Tbilisi, which announced the opportunity of receiving the scholarship at Georgian universities and accepted candidates' applications. Applications were evaluated by the Management Board for the 'Academic and Scientific Poznan' Programme. In the academic year 2010/2011 scholarships were awarded to: Natia Daghelishvili and Elene Khachidze - Tbilisi State University students pursuing post-graduate education in Management at the Adam Mickiewicz University. These students were selected by the Polish Embassy in Tbilisi. While studying in Poznan they learn, most of all, management in a modern democratic state. They will stay in Poznan until July 2011. Malkhaz Lataria - a graduate of the Ivan Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University in Tbilisi, continuing his post-graduate education in International Relations - Eastern Studies at the Adam Mickiewicz University. He is primarily interested in the cooperation between Poland and Georgia after 1989, about which he wishes to produce his MA thesis. M. Lataria cooperates with the Polish Embassy in Tbilisi and speaks fluent Polish. He will stay in Poznan until July 2011 The students receive a monthly scholarship in the gross amount of two thousand zlotys (about EUR 500). The city has also covered the cost of student's travel to Poland. The scholarship holders live in one of Adam Mickiewicz University's dormitories. The scholarship programme was initiated by Poznan's City Council, which in December 2008 adapted a resolution to award scholarships to Georgian students wishing to pursue their studies at Poznan universities. The decision to help the citizens of Georgia, focusing on university students, was made in 2008 by the City Council members, guided by the many years of friendship between the Polish and Georgian peoples and the situation in Georgia. In the academic year 2009/2010 of the first edition of the scholarship programme for Georgian students, Poznan accepted 7 Georgian students, enrolled in the Poznan University of Technology and the University of Life Sciences. |
