Dr. Anna Plisecka from the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan, as one of three people in Poland, received a research subsidy from the Foundation for Polish Science as part of the first edition of the HOMING PLUS programme in humanities and social sciences.
Dr. Anna Plisecka will allot the grant of over 200,000 (around 50,000 Euros) to research on Latin and Greek bilingualism in the Roman law. Her work will consist in analysis of development of legal institutions and normative communication (such as bilingual publication of imperial constitutions) in a multilingual society. Despite the fact that there exist undeniable differences, many similarities between contemporary EU legislation and the legislation in the Roman Empire can be seen from this perspective.
The AMU researcher will try to analyse the extent to which linguistic aspects influence the quality of law, its interpretation and rivalry between individual legal systems. Works by Dr. Anna Plisecka will fill an important gap in research into the legal language of the Roman Empire period ? so far the issue of bilingualism was analysed mainly from the historical perspective. Students selected in a recruitment proceedings and awarded grants will cooperate on the project. Means from the research grant will be allotted to collecting of materials and literature unavailable in Poland and to financing of publication of a book summing up the results of research and seminars as well as academic exchange between universities.
In its first edition of the HOMING PLUS programme the Foundation for Polish Science allotted almost 5,000,000 PLN to financing of 18 projects. The group includes three humanities and social sciences projects (financed from the Foundation?s own resources) and 15 Bio, Info and Techno projects (co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund). Currently, recruitment proceedings for the second edition of the programme are ongoing. Applications can be submitted by the 15th of October.
The HOMING PLUS programme has been implemented by the Foundation for Polish Science since 2010 and it is a development of the previously realised POWROTY/HOMING programme. Unlike its predecessor the HOMING PLUS programme is available not only to Polish researchers but also to foreign academics and scientists. The programme offers researchers with the title of doctor or higher subsidies for research conducted in Poland. At the same time it serves as an encouragement for young Polish researchers who have been living abroad, to return to the country or for young foreign doctors to come to Poland. |
