A one-year study period of four students from Georgia at the Poznan University of Life Sciences who were awarded the Poznan City Hall scholarships and studied on the fifth year of the Faculty of Forestry as part of the Academic Poznan project is over.

Levan Chopliani, Valerian Ghughunishvili, Beka Koberidze and Irakli Gotsiridze ? graduates of the Faculty of Forestry of the Georgian State Agrarian University in Tbilisi, attended classes at the Polish University. The classes consisted of seminars and field trips and their main goal was to provide the students with rules of forest management in Poland and prepare them to writing of their master?s theses connected with forest inventory and forest management planning.

Students received professional titles of forestry engineers having defended their master?s theses on analysis of forest state and forest reserves and plans of felling and pre-felling systems and forest cultivation.

Another two scholarship holders from Georgia Irakli Tsikarishvili and Nina Tchutchulashvili have studied at the Poznan University of Technology for the last year.

In December 2008 the Poznan City Council unanimously decided to fund scholarships for Georgian students who would study in Poznan higher education institutions. The Councillors made the decision to join the countries helping Georgia and to focus their help on academic youth for the sake of the long-standing friendship between the Polish and Georgian nations and taking into account the situation in Georgia.
